1. Who we are
Cocoon French is operated by a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, trading as Cocoon Languages. This policy covers both our marketing site (cocoonfrench.com) and the members’ area (club.cocoonfrench.com). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@cocoonlanguages.com.
2. What we collect and why
- Waitlist signups — your email address, optional first name, and signup source. Used to send the welcome email and Club updates you asked for. Lawful basis: consent (you can unsubscribe any time via the link in every email).
- Club accounts — your email address (used for passwordless magic-link login) and your lesson progress. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (providing your membership).
- Payments — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we store only your subscription status and plan. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- Emails we send — welcome, login links, new-lesson announcements and occasional nudges, sent via Resend from hello@cocoonlanguages.com. Every non-essential email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Support — if you email us, we keep the correspondence to help you. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
We do not run advertising or sell personal data. We currently use no analytics tracking.
3. Where your data lives (processors)
- Supabase — database and login authentication.
- Stripe — payment processing and billing portal.
- Resend — transactional email delivery.
- Vercel — website hosting.
These providers may process data outside the UK/EEA; where they do, transfers are protected by standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
4. How long we keep it
Waitlist entries: until you unsubscribe or we close the list. Club accounts and progress: while your account exists, and up to 12 months after your last activity or cancellation, after which they may be deleted. Payment records: as long as tax law requires (typically 6 years).
5. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your personal data, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email hello@cocoonlanguages.com and we’ll respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
6. Cookies
We only use essential cookies. See the Cookie Policy for the full list and how to control them.
7. Children
Our services are intended for people aged 16 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from younger children; if you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
8. Changes
If we make material changes (for example, adding analytics), we’ll update this page and the date above, and where appropriate tell members by email.
